Sukajan Senshi: The syndicate for social justice.
Existing in the secret underbelly of Virtua City is Sukajan Senshi, an organization (according to some, a gang) dedicated to addressing the social issues within the metropolis that are undetected or ignored by the government and the City Crime Watch (CCW). An effective public relations campaign has solidified Virtua City's reputation as one of unity, safety, and equal opportunities for all citizens. Sukajan Senshi exists because more critical individuals recognized major cracks in this illusion of perfection.
Founded by Yasu Himura, known as Ondori within the gang, Sukajan Senshi was created to tackle the social issues and violence that disproportionaly impacts vulnerable communities living in Virtua City. Born and raised in the bustling metropolis, from a young age it was clear to Ondori that the city was selling a lie to its citizens and the world at large. "Equality" as a virtue is an effective tool to attract people (and their money), but it takes more than advanced technology and catchy slogans to deliver it as a reality for every citizen.
Ondori, a queer Oni, is not part of the demographic advertised as the ideal citizen of Virtua City. She faced discrimination from her peers and fellow citizens from her first days attending school as a young child, and the daily prejudice against her only increased as she grew older. Inhuman people have been vilified throughout history across the globe, and not even a modern utopia is free from the violent beliefs of even the most egalitarian humans. Ondori and Sukajan Senshi believe that effective change starts with the smallest actions, and they will not stop fighting for equality until it applies to every citizen, human or not.
Sukajan Senshi provide services and protection to vulnerable communities of Virtua City: queer folks, disabled folks, and inhuman individuals who are routinely discriminated against by the city and its citizens. Although using violence is a last resort, the gang has garnered an unfair reputation as a dangerous group that is hostile to humans and folks who otherwise fit the status quo. Frequent harrassment from the CCW has forced the group to run their facilities in secret locations away from the public eye, and most prominent members have collected long criminal histories thanks to predjudiced prosecution from the local court system.
Hateful groups have emerged dedicated to targeting Sukajan Senshi members and those they help, and the introduction of Cyberscape has expanded the opportunities to attack the gang from both the virtual and physical world. Sukajan Senshi's fight for equality is threatened from all angles on a daily basis, but nonetheless they persist in their work. Seeing the positive change they can have on the lives of unprotected citizens is well-worth the risk and the struggle they face.
Since their creation in 2150, Sukajan Senshi have dedicated their effots to help the helpless, and despite increasing existential threats their work continues day in and day out, never turning away a person in need at their doorstep.
